Chamomile Lavender Tea

A deeply relaxing floral blend of dried chamomile flowers and fragrant lavender buds designed to help you unwind before bed. This simple, caffeine-free infusion offers a soothing aroma and a gentle flavor profile that promotes restful sleep.

A Note on Relaxation
This herbal blend is best enjoyed about 30 minutes before bedtime. The natural compounds in chamomile and lavender work together to signal your body that it is time to rest.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers
  • 1 teaspoon dried lavender buds
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

Boiling the Water

  1. Pour 2 cups of fresh water into a small kettle.
  2. Bring the water to a rolling boil at 100°C.

Steeping the Herbs

  1. Place the dried chamomile flowers and dried lavender buds into a heatproof teapot or a large tea infuser.
  2. Pour the boiling water directly over the herbs.
  3. Cover the teapot immediately with a lid to trap the aromatic steam and essential oils.
  4. Allow the mixture to steep for 5 to 7 minutes until the liquid turns a clear, pale golden color and fills the room with a sweet, floral fragrance.

Serving

  1. Strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer into two warm mugs.
  2. Stir in a touch of maple syrup if you prefer a hint of sweetness.
  3. Sip slowly while warm.

Variations

  • Lemon Balm Twist: Add 1 teaspoon of dried lemon balm to the herb mixture before steeping for a subtle citrus note.
  • Minty Calm: Mix in 1 teaspoon of dried peppermint leaves to add a cooling, refreshing finish to the floral base.
  • Vanilla Infusion: Stir a single drop of pure vanilla extract into each mug just before serving for a comforting, dessert-like aroma.
  • Oat Milk Tea Latte: Fill the mugs three-quarters full with the brewed tea and top with warm, frothed low-fat oat milk.
  • Warm Ginger Blend: Add a small slice of dried ginger root to the steeping pot to introduce a mild, warming spice element.

Troubleshooting

  • If the tea tastes bitter, you may have steeped it for too long. Limit the steeping time to a maximum of 7 minutes.
  • If the lavender flavor is too soapy or overpowering, reduce the lavender buds to half a teaspoon in your next brew.
  • If the tea lacks flavor, ensure your dried flowers are fresh and stored in an airtight container away from direct sunlight.
  • If you find small herbal particles floating in your mug, use a paper tea filter or a double-mesh strainer to catch the fine debris.
  • If the tea cools down too quickly during steeping, wrap a clean kitchen towel around your teapot to retain the heat.
